pancake day

Pancake
day is on Shrove Tuesday which is on the 28th February.
While
we are having fun flipping pancakes let us not forget those who are suffering
and make cruelty-free pancakes!
Check
out the recipe below!
Why go egg-free?
- In
order for female laying hens to be bred, male chicks are also hatched. Since
boys don't lay eggs they are gassed or crushed.
- Whether
you buy battery, barn or free range eggs, the hens are deemed unprofitable
after 12 months due to low egg yields. They are all slaughtered and made
into soup, baby food or dog food.
- All
hens go through the painful procedure of debeaking. They have the tip of
their beak sawn off without any anaesthetic.
- 85%
of hens live in battery cages the size of an A4 sheet of paper. They are
deprived of everything natural.
- Due
to such poor conditions hens need anti-biotics to stop them catching disease.
- In
Jan 2006 SARC and Total Liberation activists helped with the rescue of 3000
spent hens from a free range farm in Brighton. Many of the hens were thin
and wasting; and extremely hen pecked from the cramped conditions. A number
of hens needed veterinary attention and sadly not all survived.
